Senior Quality Manager – Civils Power & Infrastructure

Job Description

Senior Quality Manager – Civils Power & Infrastructure

Location: Motherwell, Scotland

Sector: Power | Energy | Transmission | Utilities | Infrastructure

Employment: Permanent

Salary £80,000 to £85,000 + £7,000 Car Allowance + Bonus

A major UK infrastructure contractor is looking to appoint a Senior Quality Manager to take a lead role across a growing portfolio of electricity transmission projects in Scotland.
This is not a single-project quality position. You will work across a number of major schemes covering substations, overhead lines, and underground cable infrastructure, providing leadership in assurance, compliance, project quality, and continuous improvement.
The role will suit someone who has operated at the Senior Quality Manager, Quality Manager, QA/QC Manager, or Quality Lead level within major construction, infrastructure, utilities, or energy projects.

The Opportunity

You will work closely with senior project leadership, construction teams, engineering, design, clients and supply-chain partners to ensure quality requirements are properly embedded from design and procurement through construction, commissioning and handover.

The position has a strong focus on improving right-first-time delivery, reducing rework, strengthening assurance and using digital reporting to give project teams better visibility of quality performance.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading quality assurance and quality control across multiple infrastructure projects
  • Supporting the development and implementation of project Quality Management Plans
  • Maintaining compliance with ISO 9001, client requirements and project standards
  • Reviewing and overseeing ITPs, inspection records, check sheets and quality documentation
  • Planning and leading project audits, inspections, surveillance and assurance reviews
  • Managing significant non-conformances, investigations and Root Cause Analysis
  • Ensuring corrective and preventative actions are properly implemented and closed out
  • Identifying quality trends, recurring issues and opportunities for improvement
  • Working with construction and engineering teams to reduce defects and rework
  • Supporting supplier and subcontractor quality performance
  • Representing the business during client audits and quality reviews
  • Developing quality dashboards and improving the use of digital reporting and data
  • Mentoring and developing Quality Managers, Quality Engineers and Quality Advisors
What We Are Looking For

You should have significant experience in quality management within a major engineering or construction environment.

Relevant backgrounds could include:
  • Power and electricity transmission
  • Utilities
  • Civil engineering
  • Rail
  • Highways
  • Nuclear
  • Water
  • Energy infrastructure
You will ideally have experience in:
  • ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
  • Quality assurance and quality control on major projects
  • Internal and external auditing
  • Inspection and Test Plans
  • Non-Conformance Reports
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Continuous improvement
  • Supply-chain quality
  • Client-facing quality assurance
  • Managing or developing quality teams

Job Requirement

Qualifications:

A Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction, Quality Management, or a related discipline is preferred.

A Lead Auditor qualification or professional membership would also be advantageous.
Power & Transmission Experience

Direct electricity transmission experience is not essential, but candidates with exposure to any of the following will be particularly relevant:
  • National Grid
  • SSEN Transmission
  • Scottish Power / SP Energy Networks
  • 132kV, 275kV or 400kV infrastructure
  • Substations
  • Overhead Lines / OHL
  • Underground Cables / UGC

Experience using Power BI, FieldView or other digital quality management and reporting systems would also be beneficial.

Why Consider the Role?

The position sits within a rapidly expanding Scottish energy infrastructure programme with a substantial pipeline of major transmission work.
It offers the opportunity to operate at portfolio level, influence how quality is managed across multiple projects and help develop a growing quality function rather than simply maintaining quality processes on a single scheme.
