Protection & Control Engineering Manager – High Voltage Substations
Location: Motherwell
Salary: £75,000 to £85,000 + car + bonus
Sector: Power Transmission & Distribution (132kV–400kV)Contract: Permanent
Role Description
The Resolute Group is working in partnership with a leading UK infrastructure contractor to recruit an experienced Protection & Control (P&C) Engineering Manager to support the design and delivery of major high-voltage substation projects across the UK.Working within the Power division, you will take responsibility for the technical leadership of Protection & Control engineering teams, overseeing the design, review and approval of electrical protection systems, SCADA, automation and associated technical documentation for 132kV–400kV substations.
This technical position combines your expertise with team leadership, design governance, and client engagement. You will work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, design consultants and major UK electricity network operators, including National Grid, SSEN and SP Energy Networks.
You will also provide technical input into tenders and bid submissions as required.As P&C Engineering Manager, your duties and responsibilities will include:

You will also provide technical input into tenders and bid submissions as required.As P&C Engineering Manager, your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Lead and oversee the design delivery on site of Protection & Control systems for high-voltage substations operating between 132kV and 400kV.
- Manage the engineering design of SCADA and substation automation systems to ensure compliance with client requirements and scope regs
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK electricity network standards, client specifications and engineering governance requirements.
- Coordinate with civil, electrical, mechanical and commissioning teams to ensure designs are integrated and suitable for construction.
- Review technical submissions from design consultants, equipment manufacturers and specialist subcontractors.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve technical issues and maintain project delivery requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement, technical innovation and knowledge sharing across the engineering function.

- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering (BEng/MEng), ideally specialising in electrical power systems or high-voltage engineering.
- Strong technical experience in Protection & Control design for high-voltage substations, ideally within the 132kV–400kV transmission network.
- Good understanding of protection relays, control systems, SCADA and substation automation.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams, consultants and equipment manufacturers.
- Strong communication, technical decision-making and stakeholder management skills.
